Steve Diet Goedde NEW WORKS Solo Show - Las Vegas July 5th + 6th

JULY 5 + 6, 2012 - LAS VEGAS, NV
STEVE DIET GOEDDE SOLO SHOW - NEW WORKS

I'm very excited about my return to Las Vegas for my new collection of work "NEW WORKS" at the Sin City Gallery. The official opening is on THURSDAY, JULY 5th, but I'll also be there the following night (FRIDAY, JULY 6th) for the Las Vegas Artwalk. The show will be on display through August 26, 2012.

In addition to my trademark black and white medium-format work, I'll be showcasing my recent explorations using low-fi equipment such as point-and-shoot cameras and the iPhone. Most of the images on display have never been made public and feature my girlfriend Yee and possess a very candid and personal feel.

Farmacia Y Botanica

Farmacia Y Botanica 03

Liz and I were strolling around downtown Los Angeles on New Years Day taking photos of various architecture when we ran upon Farmacia Y Botanica in the Million Dollar Theater building at 307 S. Broadway. I have always been familiar with that beautifully ornate building and its neighbor across the street, the Bradbury Building. The Million Dollar Theater was built in 1918 by Sid Grauman and was one of the first movie palaces built in the United States. However, I never bothered to look at what it had to offer at street level. Liz specializes at finding details, and I'm more into the grand scheme of things so that's why she wanted to see what was in this curious storefront. It is in fact a pharmacy but it's so much more that that. I've never seen a larger and more varied collection of religious and pagan artifacts - everything from Christian, pagan, Satanic, and even voodoo merchandise including candles, statues, powders, dolls, incense, oils, and other unidentifiable stuff. The staff was very nice and noticed that I had a camera bag so they told me it was okay to take photos even though I didn't even express to them that I was interested.

A VIDEO! Shooting a video at this location was completely spontaneous. It was done rather amateurishly with my little Panasonic Lumix point-n-shoot. I had no idea at the time that it might be something worthy of showing to the world. I've never been a video-minded artist but this just came about because it felt right at the time.

I showed the video to French composer Robert Waechter who scored my GoeddeConcerto CD last year. He was kind enough to compose and record the original motion picture soundtrack.

Lisa D'Amato, Los Angeles 2006

Good news and bad news for my model and former “America’s Next Top Model” contestant Lisa D’Amato. The good news is that she’s on VH1 tonight. The bad news is that she’s on this season’s “Celebrity Rehab” premiering tonight. I haven’t talked to her recently so I hope she’s okay. Best of luck Lisa!

Jessica, Los Angeles 2009

I met Jessica through Eric Kroll a few years ago. We always had an intention to shoot together but never made it happen until recently. I had about an hour to shoot her because we were at her parents' house while they were away. I kept it simple and only brought my Yashica T4 and my new Holga pinhole camera. Here are a few samples of what we achieved in that short, hurried session.

The pinhole images:
